Awards

The 2016 Atlanta Junior Golf Awards Banquet was a special evening. We had one of our largest turnouts with over 230 guests joining us to celebrate the accomplishments of many junior golfers. Over 70 junior golfers were in attendance to be recognized for what they have achieved in 2016.

Atlanta Junior Golf introduced a new format to the 2011 event that allowed junior golfers the opportunity to say a few words upon acceptance of their awards. This year all of the junior golfers made sure to thank their parents for their steadfast support of them as they continue to strive to be the best they can be on the golf course, and their competitors for helping them to better themselves on the golf course. Jalen Cauley, the 9-Hole Open Boys 13 & over Player of the Year, reflects on the 2016 season and says thank you to all of those that shared it with him.

Juniors were recognized for their success in the following categories: All-AJG Academic Team, recognizing high school boys and girls who have excelled in the classroom during the previous school year with a 3.5 or higher grade point average; All-AJG Teams, comprised of the top-10 juniors in all divisions; and Players of the Year for, boys and girls in the Open divisions, who completed the year at the top of the points list. GSGA Super Poster Awards were given to junior golfers who posted 25 or more rounds to their GSGA Handicap before August 1. We also recognized our MAADA Tour Series Players of the Year. In attendence and earning POY for the Girls 12-18 Division was Christine McDonnell and Matthew Cleary was POY for the Boys 15-18 Division.

The evening concluded with many special awards. Taylor Gray was awarded the Girls Most Improved Award. Josh Durthaler received the AJG Sportsmanship Award for his display of character and commitment to upholding the spirit of the game during the summer. Nicholas Gibson received the Roh Wezner Award. The Roh Wezner Award is given each year to the junior golfer who has the best scoring average over the summer. Gibson posted an average of 72.62 this season. Gibson also took home the MAADA Award this year for earning the most points in the Summer Series, a 119 out of 120 points this season.

Ms. Jaime Henck was our Junior Golf Ambassador award recipient. This award is presented annually to a group or individual who has contributed to the advancement of junior golf and helped to secure its future by promoting and preserving the traditions and integrity of the game. Ms. Henck has played, volunteered, and worked for 30+ years in the Association. She is also the Championship Coordinator for the Season-Ending Championships. During the fall and spring, she is a math teacher at Luella High School in Locust Grove, GA. She also is the Boys and Girls Golf Coach for the school.
