A Conversation with Dave Womack
What's your fondest memory of Atlanta Junior Golf?
I think it has to be winning the Grand Championship when I was 13 [years old] in San Destin. I remember Larry Nelson had helped that year and he handed my award to me and congratulated me.

How much do you practice or play these days?
I really don't get a chance to practice. I have always liked playing. I'll try to play a few tournaments like the U.S. Amateur and the U.S. Mid-Amateur championship. I'll probably play two or three times a week with friends when I have the time.

How has Atlanta Junior Golf benefited you the most?
I think it was the foundation for me. It helped me develop as a golfer. I made some really good friends and my parents made some really good friends. When we traveled to San Destin for the Grand Championship it was a lot of fun. I think the guys I played with we became a tight knit group.

After winning the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship and receiving an invitation to play in The Masters, what was that feeling like?
It was surreal. My mom and dad came to the tournament, and so did my wife. I actually received the invitation in December and my wife accidentally opened it, but didn't give me the letter until Christmas. So it was a terrific gift. I think I played about nine practice rounds to get ready for the tournament. It was an awesome year of golf.

Do you have a favorite golf memory?
Yes, winning the U.S. Mid-Amateur last year, and playing in The Masters this year.
